Jolanda Oosting-Visser (Amsterdam)

Jolanda Oosting-Visser, born 1958) is living and working with her husband and three daughters in Holland. In her studio ''The Bente" finds Jolanda her daily inspiration in modelling woman (aspecially fat woman) and animals in clay.

Jotlanda often is visiting the Frisian Islands in Holland (aspecially Ameland) and Denmark, where she also exposes her work. Some years ago she realized that fat woman can be beautiful as a model (something that Baroque Painters like Rubens knew way back in the day), and that this has become a recurring theme in her work. Their well-rounded forms and special proportions do inspire me when I'am modelling the clay. These forms are excellent for the ceramique design. So she also gives the queen-size woman poses that show great rhythm and graceful form. Some of there gesture poses can get funny and burlesque. An arch to the back, a twist to the torso, and a rhythmic arrangement of arms and legs are some of the elements that she uses. After firing the sculptures, she puts up a patina in soft coloured greyish patina. This gives her bathers a sandy look and the animals a natural appearance.
